Site news posing as a real entry
A few items to share…Nicole (the girlfriend) is going to be mostly taking over the photo site, which means she’ll choose which photos to upload, as well as write the captions. All this really means is that if you see or read anything strange, blame her. I’m also working on her to write an occasional article for the site, but the former Valedictorian seems to think I’m too critical of her writing style.
The other thing I wanted to mention is that Marie-Alana was so kind as to share the custom code she is running on her ShortStat implementation that lists ip addresses by total hits, with a link to the Whois information. I had been impatiently trying to get a similar function to work, but it didn’t make sense until she sent her code with a detailed explanation.
The wonderful thing about the blogging community is how unselfish people generally are about sharing their ideas and methods to help others learn. It’s particularly noticeable in contrast to my experiences at work, where everyone is so concerned about job security that they are afraid to share any knowledge about anything.
UPDATE:
Janne developed a method to list repeat AND recent visitors by ip address with a link to the Whois information. I’ve tried several Whois services, and so far I like Whois Source and SamSpade the best. Many thanks to Janne for taking the time to make a great application even better.
