Revenge of the Sith

I’m sure that all of the recent posts in the Entertainment category must qualify as cruel and unusual punishment for you three (much appreciated) readers, but I’m taking a few days off from boring you with my liberal political agenda. I’ve also had movies on the brain lately because there are several films out that I’m excited about going to see. This weekend that includes The Bourne Supremacy, which looks fantastic. In related news, I beat the hell out of my DVD player and did some rewiring (insert grunt here), and somehow it started working again after a week of protest. Go figure.

It took a whole paragraph to get here, but I wanted to post a few thoughts about the Star Wars Episode III title that was announced on Saturday. In short, I like it. I didn’t care for “The Phantom Menace” and I thought “Attack of the Clones” sounded like a B movie, but “Revenge of the Sith” has an ominous tone that matches the inevitable plot of the forthcoming movie.

I’m not really interested in commenting on the marketing campaign that was the first prequel, but I enjoyed “…Clones”, even if a few of the performances were of the wooden variety. If I hadn’t seen Hayden Christensen in another movie, I might swear he couldn’t act. Portman has been slightly disappointing as well, but that may be due to the cheesy dialogue and stiff direction. Of course, those excuses doesn’t quite jive with the relatively enjoyable performances of the original trilogy.

Regardless of what may seem like a negative undercurrent above, I love Star Wars, and I’m really excited about the new movie. And by excited, I mean hopeful. And by hopeful, I mean afraid.
