Vidya games
We (the long suffering girlfriend + me) are considering purchasing an X-Box. We figure that we can buy a few Jeopardy type games to play together and we’ll have a great time. It’s even possible that we’ll pick up Max Payne and pump some baddies full of lead. Now, isn’t that a sweet story about spending quality time with your mate? No?
It’s not really that we have a huge surplus of time on our hands. Between work, classes, goofing off, watching television, playing ping pong, and trying to wade through a mountain of reading material, we aren’t lacking for ways to occupy our time. It’s just that we might be missing something, so we’re going to expand our entertainment horizons. Yes, we’ll still go to the movies and we’ll still talk about how we should go bowling someday, but now we’ll have joysticks waiting at home!
Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of video games. It’s true that I probably screwed up a long-term relationship back in 1997 because I suffered a horrible addiction to Super Tecmo Bowl, but who hasn’t? I’m clean now. I’ve been on the wagon for almost seven years. I might have had a few lapses in between, but I couldn’t help it. I’m a weak, weak man. Doesn’t everybody get a bad case of the shakes at the mention of Donkey Kong Country?
In those days, I used to wait until I was SURE that the old girlfriend was asleep and then I would quietly start to slip out of bed with thoughts of sneaking into the living room where my trusty SNES awaited my return. Typically, I’d get one foot on the ground and it would happen. A loud voice in the darkness would inquire, “Where are you going?” What to say? Think fast you idiot! Uhh…to get a drink of water, to the bathroom, out for a jog, out to my car, I’m sleepwalking, sonofa! Oh the guilt. It was almost as bad as the time she caught me eyeballing one of her cousins. Apparently it’s worse when you check out a relative versus a complete stranger.
One of my controllers mysteriously got jammed in the garbage disposal days later. I’m sure it was a coincidence.
